I am working hard to clear up my skin and keep it youthful and glowing, especially since I have been taking so many photos and videos lately. And I knew if I wanted to keep this clear skin permanently, I had to change some major parts of my lifestyle. The biggest change I made was reducing my stress levels, which I will talk about in a later post. But I have also been incorporating some great skincare and general health changes into my life, and the results are well worth it!
My Top 10 Tips for Clear AF Skin
1. Exfoliate once a week
The easiest way to reveal our beautifully radiant skin is to get rid of the dull, dead skin cells hiding our glow. By exfoliating at least once a week, you’re clearing away the old to make way for the new. And if you have dry skin, the stimulating effects of the exfoliation can also help improve oil production to reduce dryness.
2. More water and less soda
We know sodas don’t really have any nutritional value; it’s like drinking candy. And we have heard too many times that we should be drinking more water for any number of health benefits, so I’m not going to list them all here. Just do it. Drink your water.
3. Use a facial brush for cleansing
Try cleansing your face with your favorite cleanser on a vibrating facial brush to clear blemishes and reduce scars and hyper-pigmentation.
4. Get your beauty sleep
There is a reason we call it “beauty” sleep: our bodies use this time to repair and rejuvenate. And since your skin is the first indicator of sleep deprivation, let your body get the rest it needs to keep your skin clear.
5. Set a skincare routine
With a super busy schedule, I struggled the most with sticking to my morning and evening skincare regimen. And I made it more difficult because I was a self-proclaimed “product junkie” and I overwhelmed myself with too many products and steps. I’ve since found the easiest way to be consistent is to keep it simple! In the morning, I cleanse and moisturize; and in the evening, I remove my makeup, cleanse and moisturize. Simple, easy, and effective!
6. Ditch the junk food
Like soda, junk food has little to no nutritional value. But I know there are those days (or times of the month) where I crave it. So just make sure to keep the salty, sugary, fatty foods to a minimum, and I increase my lean meats and leafy veggies to stay full. That way, I appreciate my treat even more when I choose one.
7. Wipe off your phone screen
We take our smartphones, everywhere, right? That makes them the biggest and easiest place to carry germs and bacteria straight to our faces. Wipe your phone down with an antibacterial wipe every few days, or try using headphones to avoid direct contact of your phone to your face. Also, (and I’m guilty of this) stop touching your face with dirty hands; and change your pillowcases weekly. In other words, keep the extra bacteria away from your face.
8. DIY Facial with a bomb clay mask
Find a mask your skin loves, (like LimeLife by Alcone’s Masque of Zen) and give yourself a facial. Cleanse your face, then apply the mask. After letting it sit for the required amount of time, soak a washcloth with hot water and place it on your face to let the steam work. Then (gently) wipe the mask off with the washcloth. Don’t forget to moisturize after!
Not only will you torch calories, but you will also work your body to purge impurities. Make sure to cleanse your face directly after your workout to wash away the dirt, oil, and salt produced from your perspiration.
10. Don’t pop your pimples
You’re much more likely to develop an acne scar or infect your pimple if you try to pop it. Instead, try to spot treat them so they go down more quickly. Tip: most clay masks can double as pimple treatments.
